Removal Hemorrhoids

just had my thrombosed hemorrhoid treated by incision and removal of clot?
and it hurts like heck!! has anyone had this done b4? it was fine till the local anesthetic wore off, i dont think i gonna be able to work tomorrow, how long is recovery normally? it looks worse in the mirror, all swollen now. what should i put on it? can i put preparation h or something like that on the open cut? they said to take bath but i dont have a bath tube, would a hot tub work or would the chlorine be bad? somebody please give me some positive input. im so scared to poop im gonna make myself constipated.
I haven’t had hemorrhoids, but I had an abscess and fistula for years. I understand your concern.
You should go to a pharmacy and purchase a “Sitz Bath”. If this is too costly, a large dish pan will substitute. Fill it with as hot of water as you can stand and soak in it. It DOES help. Prep H and Anusol help with swelling and may give a slight analgesic effect. Call your doctor’s office to ask if it is OK to use.
Eat plenty of fiber and keep the meat products at a minimum (Yes, it sucks, but you don’t want to risk constipation while you are healing). If you are having difficulty going to the bathroom, Metamucil should help.
I also used pillows to prop my legs high while reading and watching TV. This took some of the pressure off. If you don’t have any reason that you can’t, Aleve is a good pain reliever to take; so is Advil. Don’t take more than the recommended amount as it can cause stomach and liver problems. If it isn’t working, call your doctor to request a prescription strength.
I went through this for nearly a decade, so I consider myself an expert at this point! I hope you feel better soon.
Addition: I came back to this question as I realized I forgot to mention not to get into a hottub. There are too many chemicals used as a general rule. If none are used, it can be a breeding ground for germs.
I read HaLez’s answer…every specialist I have spoken with (and there were many over the years) has recommended sitz baths. In a bathtub, this involves keeping the water at a low level. It is encouraged for a few reasons, not the least of which is the importance of keeping the area clean. Heat also helps alleviate pain and draw out infection.
I’m skeptical of a “nurse” who states this isn’t a good idea. Also, you should never put anything on a post-op wound without verifying it is ok with the doctor.
