There are over 200 different types of cancer and almost all of them have the potential to be deadly. Cancer survival depends on many different factors. . it depends on the type of cancer, location of disease, stage and grade of the tumor, overall health of the patient, patient's age, and response to treatment. To understand cancer. . any type of cancer. . and its ability to threaten the life you should know that cancer is a progressive disease. Cancer begins as a single mutated cell located anywhere in the body. This cell may be a malignant develop into a tumor. . and grow indefinitely unless it is treated. Tumor growth depends on the type of cancer. . some tumors grow slowly for 20 years or more, while other types of tumors are aggressive and fast and can grow in the months, weeks or even days. In the very early stages cancer. . the tumor is small. . As the disease progresses at a later stage. . The tumor becomes large tumors and may begin to grow at the same place . . at one point the largest tumors can begin to shed hundreds of malignant cells in the blood or lymphatic system in a process called metastasis. Metastatic cancer is called stage IV. The dishes can travel throughout the body and lodge in a remote location. . common are liver, lungs, bones or brain. . new cancer colonies will start to grow in these places and repeat the whole process. . growth and metastasis. . Indefinitely unless it stops processing. So you should ask your grandmother what stage his cancer is. . if it is in the early stages that can be treated with surgery and chemotherapy, perhaps. . if it is in the final stages that cancer can be cured, but it will very difficult. There is no guarantee. You can read more about the disease at the National Cancer Institute: cancer of the rectum and colon http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/types/colon-and-rectal
