Hemorrhoids Lancing
My anorectal abscess was lanced 9 days go now and it’s still draining. Is this normal?
The doctor who performed the procedure indicated either it would take 3 or 4 days to drain or it would take that long for me to feel less pain. I don’t remember as I was stressed during and after this painful procedure. I was not packed. Does anyone know the benefits to not packing a lanced abscess and is it a good way to heal? Also, is it normal that after 9 days it is still draining? How long will it take to close up? I don’t know how big the incision is but the abscess was the size of a large marble. I plan to follow up with my gp but he misdiagnosed it in the first place as hemorrhoids so I’m scared to see him. I carried this abscess for 3 weeks before it was lanced.. is that a downfall to it becoming a fistula as well? I’m so depressed over this please help me with answers.
And is it normal to still feel a lump under the skin? It’s gone down a bit since it’s been lanced but it’s still pretty hard. How long does that take to fully recover?
Whether the draining period is normal I don’t know. The fact that it is draining, however, is a good thing. The last thing you want to happen is for the abscess to reseal allowing an infection to grow in size again, pushing into other areas. Once the abscess was lanced and the infected pus drained, the body should undergo tissue repair of the area, healing from the inside out.
If this formed within the anal crypts, then a fistula forming is a distinct possibility. Once the cavity is drained, however, this should stop any such progression. If the fistula made its way to the outside skin surface, you’d know.
For the other questions, I’d definitely have your doctor or his staff address your concerns. Remember, your the customer in the doctor-patient relationship and you deserve answers.
Good luck!
